I'm not seeing this anywhere else but 680 News out of Toronto is reporting that the NHLPA is suspending operations.

If true, this is a bizarre twist for the PA.

In November of 1917 the National Hockey League was founded in Montreal by four of the five National Hockey Association member teams.

Eddie Livingstone, owner of the NHA's Toronto franchise, was not invited to join the new NHL. Toronto was awarded a franchise in the new league under different ownership.

Former Red Wing Sean Avery has been suspended indefinitely by the NHL following comments made to the press about Calgary Flames defenseman Dion Phaneuf and Phaneuf's girlfriend (Avery's ex-girlfriend) Elisha Cuthbert.

The NHL officially announced today that the Red Wings and Blackhawks will meet at Chicago's Wrigley Field for the 2009 Winter Classic.

The game, to begin at 1:00 PM Eastern on New Years Day 2009, will be part of a home-and-home series that will see the Blackhawks visit Detroit on December 30, 2008.

The Forechecker has an interesting bit posted that may prove that expansion is coming to the NHL again.

Apparently "Boots" Del Biaggio, the now-bankrupt member of Nashville's ownership group, had a nice little tid-bit in the document he used to recruit members into that ownership group.

I've mentioned before that I don't usually pay too much attention to the draft because the Wings are picking so late and so rarely that there's no need to stay glued to it. When Detroit does pick, it's likely to be someone you've never heard of and won't hear of again until four years later when they crack the lineup and become a superstar.

It's possible that the ban on octopus twirling will be lifted for the Western Conference Finals, according to Helene St. James.

The Wings have been told rules are loosening up regarding twirling the octopus, so maybe, just maybe, Al Sobotka will get to make his moves again this round.

Detroit Red Wings netminder Chris Osgood will join three teammates and his coach in Atlanta for this year's NHL All-Star Game, the league announced today.

With the starting lineup already determined by fan voting, the rest of the Western Conference team's roster was announced Thursday.

Three Detroit Red Wings will be on the ice at the start of the 2008 NHL All-Star Game, the league announced today.

Pavel Datsyuk, Henrik Zetterberg, and Nicklas Lidstrom were voted as starters to the Western Conference squad, to be coached by Detroit head coach Mike Babcock.
