Red Wings Acquire Defenseman Stuart from Kings

The Detroit Red Wings moved to strengthen their blue line at the NHL trade deadline on Tuesday, picking up defenseman Brad Stuart from the Los Angeles Kings for second-round and fourth-round draft picks.

The 28-year-old defenseman had played in 63 games this season for the Kings, scoring five goals and adding 16 assists in his first campaign with Los Angeles.

Zetterberg Out Through All-Star Game

Detroit Red Wings forward Henrik Zetterberg announced Tuesday that he will not play the next two games and will also sit out the All-Star Game scheduled for the upcoming weekend.

It marks the second consecutive All-Star Game Zetterberg has missed due to injury.

Detroit Red Wings netminder Chris Osgood will join three teammates and his coach in Atlanta for this year's NHL All-Star Game, the league announced today.

With the starting lineup already determined by fan voting, the rest of the Western Conference team's roster was announced Thursday. Osgood was named to the team, joining starters Henrik Zetterberg, Pavel Datsyuk, and Nicklas Lidstrom.

As per club policy, the financial terms of the deal were not announced, but TSN of Canada reports that the contract is for just under $1.5 million per season.

The Detroit Red Wings announced on Wednesday that they have signed defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom to a two-year contract extention, keeping him with the team through 2010.

Lidstrom confirmed that the deal was worked out with Detroit general manager Ken Holland last week.

The Detroit Red Wings agreed to terms on a three-year contract extension with forward Kris Draper on Thursday. The deal is worth $4.75 million over three years.

The 36-year-old Draper was set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer but had no interest in leaving the Red Wings. The three-year deal virtually assures that he will spend the rest of his career in Detroit.

The Detroit Red Wings, along with the rest of the NHL, announced their 2007-08 season schedule on Wednesday.

The Red Wings will open their season in Detroit on October 3, hosting the Stanley Cup Champion Anaheim Ducks. The Ducks eliminated the Red Wings from last season's playoffs and then signed Detroit free agents Mathieu Schneider and Todd Bertuzzi in the offseason.

Drake Returns to Red Wings

The Detroit Red Wings announced the signing of veteran forward Dallas Drake on Monday. As per club policy, the financial terms of the one-year deal were not announced.
